Atlas Cloud alternative for image generation
Atlas Cloud is a platform with one API for images, video, audio, and chat: its documentation states more than 400 models. Below are their terms next to ours: payment, bonuses, operating mode. This page has no Atlas Cloud prices for our models: we haven’t verified them.
A Rendergrid article. We’re one of the parties in this comparison, so the Atlas Cloud figures come only from its public pages, each with a link and a date, and below we say separately when Atlas Cloud is the better choice. How we check and correct
01Who it is
What Atlas Cloud is
Briefly, and only from their own pages. Documentation: atlascloud.ai/
Atlas Cloud (atlascloud.ai) is a platform with a single API to 400+ models: images, video, audio, and chat. Images and video work asynchronously: a request creates a task, and you collect the result by polling or through a webhook.
According to Atlas Cloud’s documentation, GPT Image models are billed by tokens, like language models.
02Terms
Payment, bonus credits, and operating mode
What Atlas Cloud’s pages say, next to our terms. Where a page is silent, we say so.
Terms: Atlas Cloud and Rendergrid
| Condition | Atlas Cloud | Rendergrid |
|---|---|---|
| Payment | Cards (Stripe), Alipay, WeChat Pay, and cryptocurrency; the minimum top-up is $25; purchased credits are valid for 365 days; large amounts and bank transfer go through support; an invoice can be issuedsource 1 source 2 | USDT (crypto top-up): the full amount sent is credited to the balance |
| Credits at no charge | Bonuses for promo codes and invitations: $5 per friend after their first top-upsource | There’s no trial balance |
| Synchronous or asynchronous | Asynchronous: POST /api/ | Asynchronous: POST returns 202 and an ID; the result comes through polling GET /creations/ |
| Webhooks | Yes: the webhook_url field; one signed delivery (Ed25519) per result; retries with an increasing delay, up to about 10 attemptssource | Yes: webhook_url in every request; the creation.completed and creation.failed events; an HMAC-SHA256 signature over the timestamp and the whole request body |
| Failed request | Failed tasks are not charged: the amount reserved at submission is returned automatically, including on a timeoutsource | If a generation fails, the charge is returned to the balance automatically; a declined request is refunded the same way |
| Limits | Limits per account and per model; the numbers are not given on the checked pages; the remaining limit is not returned in headers; more on request to supportsource | By default for a new account: 120 requests per minute and up to 100 generations queued or running; account limits can be adjusted to match your traffic |
| Result storage | Result files are stored for 14 days by default; a request header can shorten the period to 1 hoursource | Result files are stored for one day |
Also on their pages
- The /model/
calculate method states the exact price of a request in advance: it doesn’t create a task and doesn’t charge the balance. source - Top-ups are not refunded, and any remaining balance is lost when an account is deleted. source
- Atlas Cloud warns that a request that ended in a timeout may have been accepted, and a blind retry can create and pay for a second task. source
Our terms in detail are in the documentation.
03Strengths
Where we’re stronger, and where Atlas Cloud is
Only what can be verified from public pages and our documentation.
Where Rendergrid is stronger
- Every one of our models has a stated price per image and resolution, including GPT Image. At Atlas Cloud, GPT Image models are billed by tokens.
- Limits are given as numbers: by default 120 requests per minute and up to 100 generations queued or running, and a 429 response includes the wait time. Atlas Cloud gives no numbers on the pages we checked and doesn’t return the remaining limit in headers.
- Once the acceptance response is saved, repeating a request with the same X-Idempotency-Key and the same API key returns the original 202 response with the same ID, with no new generation and no new charge. Atlas Cloud’s documentation warns that a blind retry after a timeout can create and pay for a second task.
Where Atlas Cloud is stronger
- The catalog is wider: more than 400 models, including video, audio, and chat.
- Payment by card, Alipay, WeChat Pay, and crypto; the minimum top-up is $25. Ours is USDT: the full amount sent is credited to the balance.
- There are bonuses for promo codes and invitations: $5 per friend after their first top-up.
- Files are stored for 14 days by default, and the period can be changed with a request header. Ours are stored for one day.
- The /model/
calculate method states the exact price of a request in advance and doesn’t charge the balance.
04Choosing
When to pick Atlas Cloud instead
We write this page as a participant in the comparison, so we name separately the cases where Atlas Cloud suits you better.
Pick Atlas Cloud if
- You need a broad catalog: images, video, audio, and chat under one key.
- You find a card, Alipay, WeChat Pay, or crypto and a small first top-up ($25) convenient.
- Results must be stored with the provider for up to 14 days, with an adjustable period.
- You need a method that states the exact price of a request in advance.
05Migration
Migrating to Rendergrid in three steps
If you decide to give it a try, here is what to change in the code. Parameters and responses are in the documentation.
Key and address
At Atlas Cloud, requests go to https://
api.atlascloud.ai/ api/ v1/ model/ generateImage with an Authorization: Bearer header. For us it is https:// api.rendergrid.io/ api/ public/ v1 with the same Authorization: Bearer header (or X-API-Key). Request
Instead of a body with a model field such as google/nano-banana-2/text-to-image, call POST /images/
generate: our model IDs are short (for example, nano-banana-2), aspect_ratio and resolution sit at the root of the body, and the webhook is set with the webhook_url field (it has the same name at Atlas Cloud). Add X-Idempotency-Key. Result
Instead of a task identifier and the statuses processing, completed, and failed, save the ID from the 202 response and poll GET /creations/
{id} (queued, processing, completed, and failed; links in result_urls) or accept the creation.completed webhook. Our files are kept for a day, not 14 days.
IDEMPOTENCY_KEY="$(uuidgen)"
curl -X POST https://api.rendergrid.io/api/public/v1/images/generate \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $RENDERGRID_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-H "X-Idempotency-Key: $IDEMPOTENCY_KEY" \
-d '{
"model": "nano-banana-2",
"prompt": "a ceramic mug on a marble table",
"resolution": "2K",
"aspect_ratio": "1:1"
}'
